The Pick-Your-Own Experience
Pick-your-own fruit at Nichols Ranch and Orchards is relaxing and kid-friendly, a chance to enjoy nature and pick sumptuous fruit. We direct you to the location to find the best fruit but also, encourage you to explore and find what tastes best to you.

We mow and weed grassy areas to give you easy access to fruit. Even with the mowing and grooming, this is still a working orchard, please keep in mind the following: the ground is uneven and sometimes rocky, there are occasional snakes and bugs, at 6,800 feet elevation the air is thinner, finding fruit to pick requires walking and sometimes climbing a ladder.

Pick-Your-Own Guidelines

  • Always check-in at the country store first to get picking locations and information.

  • We recommend wearing close-toed shoes, as the terrain is hilly, rocky, and picking sometimes requires the use of a ladder.

  • Children must be accompanied by an adult.

  • Well-behaved dogs are allowed on our farm with the requirement that they remain on leash and owners pick up after them.

  • Do not climb or shake the trees. This will damage fruit and can break tree limbs.

  • If two or three fruits are clustered together, use two hands and gently pick all the fruit in the cluster.

  • Please dispose of trash in proper receptacles.

  • Please be considerate of all of our customers and observe our non-smoking policy.

 Picking Tips

  • For dark sweet cherries, darkness is the true key to getting a ripe cherry. The darker they are, the sweeter they will be.

  • For yellow sweet cherries, you want to pay special attention to the rosy cheeks of the fruit. Rosy cheeks mean ripe fruit.

  • Keep stems on the fruit you pick—this makes them last longer.
